Lady Tigers Crush Lincoln in Sectional Championship
February 18, 2009 - Any drama that might have been was an afterthought well before halftime of the girls basketball sectional championship game at Knightstown Saturday night. Hagerstown won its first title since 1995 by easily defeating Cambridge City Lincoln 39-26.
Although the Lady Tigers led early in the contest 3-2, Hagerstown quickly scored and never trailed again in the lopsided victory. The Banner’s sectional MVP Katelyn Lakes scored 19 points and had nine rebounds in the finale.
Hagerstown led 12-6 after one quarter and then held Lincoln scoreless in the second frame. Their 17-6 halftime lead would stretch to 27-14 after three quarters, and the final eight minutes were merely a formality. The closes the Lady Golden Eagles would get was within 10 points at 31-21, but Hagerstown turned back the challenge at that point with a game-closing 8-5 run over the final three minutes.
Hagerstown advances on to play top-ranked Heritage Christian in the regional.
