Fields Burns Vikings For 20, KHS Wins

February 11, 2009 -  Lane Fields scored a game-high 20 points and the Knightstown junior varsity boys basketball team used a 17-0 second quarter run to dispose of Blue River 58-26 Friday night.

Fields scored eight first quarter points and then exploded for nine more in the third frame. The Panthers led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Vikings 17-0 in the second period. Nolan Hall did the majority of the damage in that second quarter, scoring all nine of his points.

Knightstown went on a 34-7 scoring binge over the second and third quarters during the blowout win.

Fields scored eight points on four field goals in the first quarter. Jacob Taylor added three markers and Knightstown opened up an 11-7 lead. The Panthers then got nine second quarter points from Hall, who hit a trey, two field goals and a pair of free throws during his scoring streak.

Danny Ortman also knocked down a three-pointer and Aaron Forshey added a bucket as the Panther reserves increased their halftime lead to 28-7.

Knightstown then consistently went inside to Fields in the third frame, and his nine points blew the game wide open. Fields completed a three-point play and Forshey scored on a nice pass from Hall to punch the lead up to 43-12 with just over a minute to play in the third frame.

A rebound basket by Lucas Hochstedler put the Panthers up 45-14 after three quarters.

Hochstedler and Chris Mefford scored four points apiece in the final frame and Wes Hammer added three more to complete the blowout.

Fields was high-point man with 20. Hall scored nine while Hochstedler added six. Five points were scored by Ortman and Taylor, while Forshey and Mefford had four apiece. Hammer added three and Anthony Forshey scored two. Nine different Panthers scored in the game.
