 Optimists Launching Wrestling Program

January 28, 2009 -  The Knightstown Home Optimist Club is launching a wrestling program for students in grades kindergarten through eighth. The program is designed as an introduction to the sport of wrestling for area students.

The emphasis of the program will include basic instruction on proper wrestling techniques. Potential wrestlers will meet on Monday evenings from 6-8 p.m., and will continue through the end of April.

During the last week of the program there will be a wrestling camp, which will be offered at no additional cost, Monday through Friday from 6-7:30 p.m. It is the goal of the Optimists to conduct an actual wrestling meet on the Saturday following the camp.

Each participant in the program will have the opportunity to compete on the day of the wrestling meet. The program is open to any participant in grades K-8. The only cost involved will be the price of a T-shirt.

Registration will take place on February 9, beginning at 5 p.m., with a brief parent meeting following. The registration and meeting will take place at the Knightstown High School wrestling room.

For more information, contact co-chairmen Tony Darling (home 345-7588, cell 765-545-0315) or Matt Kennedy (cell 317-509-1671).
