Chew, Darling Pace JV Girls to 31-19 Win

January 14, 2009 -  Knightstown’s junior varsity girls basketball team jumped out to an early lead and disposed of North Decatur last Thursday, 31-19.

Knightstown didn’t shoot well at all in the game, hitting just 10-of-48 field goals. But the Lady Panthers made good on 11-of-14 free throws and came up with 16 steals in the game.

Knightstown led 9-3 after one quarter and extended that margin to 19-9 at halftime. The Lady Panther lead was 27-14 heading into the final period. Megan Chew led all scorers with 10 points, knocking down six of her eight free throw attempts. She also had four rebounds and one steal.

Ashley Darling had a superb all-around game, scoring two points but gathering up four rebounds, a team-high five steals and dishing out two assists.

Mahaley Hagy scored eight points, hitting 4-of-6 field goals. Haley Morgan was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe and finished the game with six points, two steals, a blocked shot and one rebound. Ariel Sturgill had four points, while Haley Cruse scored three points and grabbed two rebounds.

Sarah Whiteside had two points, three rebounds, four steals and an assist. Hannah Smith scored two points, pulled down four rebounds, had a team-high three assists and collected one steal.

The girls played Eastern Hancock Tuesday night and host Union County at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Patriots are a potential Sectional 42 foe come tournament time.
