Panthers Fall in Soccer Sectional, 3-1
October 15, 2008 - New Castle knocked Knightstown out of the soccer sectional last week by defeating the Panthers 3-1.
Knightstown scored its goal at the midpoint of the first half when Luke Brishaber scored on an assist from Sam Rech. The Trojans got the game-winning goal from Nahum Cuautle on an assist from Andrew Miller. That gave them a 2-1 lead.
The Trojans scored with 18 seconds left in the game to provide the final margin. A Josh Cook goal upped the lead to 3-1.
Panther goal Jared Kayajan had 11 saves in a well-played game.
The Trojans won their second straight IHSAA boys soccer sectional title after a penalty kick gave them a 2-1 victory over the Centerville Bulldogs.
New Castle (8-9-1) advanced to Wednesday's (today) regional at Rushville. Centerville finished the season with a record of 9-4-4.
Trojan Robby Berry scored to put New Castle up 1-0 with 34:38 left in the first half.
Andrew Miller netted another penalty kick with 4:48 to give the Trojans the win.
