 Netters Get First Win of Year

September 24, 2008 - Knightstown’s varsity tennis team picked up its first win of the season last week, defeating Morristown 3-2.

Mike Hurst got things rolling for the Panthers by picking up a win at the number one singles slot. Hurst defeated Ethan Craig 6-3, 6-2. Nick Dalton then defeated Connor Shannon at the number two singles spot, 6-2, 7-5.

Anthony Hibbert, playing the number three singles spot, defeated Derek Huffman 6-4, 6-2, preserving Knightstown’s first win of the season.

In doubles play, Kamron Beavers and Clay Ratliff played a tremendous match against Matt Kuhn and Matt Linville, losing 6-4 and 7-5. In the other doubles match, Cody McDowell and Mitch Marsischke fell 6-4, 6-0.

 

Knightstown’s varsity tennis team lost matches to Shenandoah and Tri High in the Henry County Tourney over the weekend.

In number one singles play, Nick Dalton fell to Raider Darren Figg 6-2 and 6-1. At number two singles, Mitch Marsischke lost to Jacob Moore in straight sets of 6-0. Cody McDowell also fell at the number three slot 6-0 and 6-0 to Jacob Moistner.

In doubles play, Mike Hurst and Anthony Hibbert lost 6-1 and 6-2 Zach Williams and Justin Farmer. Kamron Beavers and Clay Ratliff lost 6-0, 6-1 to Jake McClurg and Codie Hayes.

In the second round against Tri High, Dalton fell to Scott Oliver 6-0 and 6-2. Marsischke lost to Nick Wilkey 6-4, 6-1, and Palmer lost to Ty Hall 6-0 and 6-0.

In doubles action, Hurst and Hibbert lost to Chris Wilkey and Caleb Hinshaw 6-2 and 6-1. Beavers and Ratliff fell to Drew Farrington and Dillon Creason 6-2, 6-1.

The KHS netters travel to Eastern Hancock Thursday, and then return to the Royal courts Saturday for the White River Athletic Conference meet.
