 7th Grade Spikers Beat Morristown

September 24, 2008 - Knightstown’s seventh grade volleyball team defeated Morristown last week, and lost tough matches to Cambridge City Lincoln and Lapel.

The young Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Yellow Jackets 25-23 and 25-22 in a well-played match. Jacquelyn Hastings led the Knightstown attack with seven service points on three aces.

Patty Jones had three service points, one kill and one dig. Jones and Hastings did not commit an error in the match. Emily Thomas led the team with three kills, while Jill Gross had three service points on two aces. Kinzey Stewart had three points, Casey Back added two points and a dig, and Abby Hawkins also had two service points.

“The girls played a great match tonight,” coach Cindy Hammer said. “They kept their focus even though the score was close during the entire match. Everyone got to play and contributed tonight.”

Cambridge City Lincoln took a match from the Lady Panthers in straight games, winning a close first game 25-23, and then coasting in the second, 25-13.

Casey Back led Knightstown with seven service points on two aces. Cassandra Cox had six points and also served up two aces. Sydney Grizzell had two points and a kill, while Jacquelyn Hastings had a point, one kill and three defensive digs.

Emily Thomas had four service points, one ace and three kills, but the Lady Panthers lost in two games to a very good Lapel team last week, 25-13 and 25-14.

Sydney Grizzell served for two points, and Knightstown got single service points from Casey Back, Jill Gross, Jacquelyn Hastings, Patty Jones and Chelsea St. John.

The Lady Panthers are now 2-3 on the season and played at Tri Tuesday night. The girls host Eastern Hancock Thursday at 6 p.m. before traveling to Benjamin Rush Monday.
