 7th Grade Spikers Clobber BRV

September 17, 2008 - Patty Jones served for 24 points and had six aces to lead the Knightstown seventh grade girls volleyball team to a 25-9, 25-9 victory over Blue River last week. The win upped the young Lady Panthers’ team record to 1-1 on the season.

Jones served up her 24 points on just 26 attempts.

“Patty was very consistent and just kept the ball in play,” Knightstown coach Cindy Hammer said. “As a team we had very few errors.”

Jacquelyn Hasting also served up two aces and had a solo block. Emily Thomas had a kill in her only attempt. Casey Back, Abby Hawkins, Hannah Morgan and Madison Holder all had service points in the Lady Panther attack.

Richmond Test won the season opener against Knightstown’s 7th grade girls in three games. Test took the first contest 25-18, but the Lady Panthers rebounded to claim the second game 25-13. Richmond won the third battle to take the match, 15-4.

“I thought the girls did a good job for their first match of the season,” Hammer said. “This group really understands the game and is improving every day.”

Casey Back led Knightstown with nine service points, including five aces. She also had two digs. Patty Jones had a good all-around game with three service points, two kills, two assists, one defensive dig and two aces.

Jacquelyn Hastings contributed with three service points and a team-high four digs. Abby Hawkins had four service points, Jill Gross and Madison Holder both served for two points, Emily Thomas had a kill, Sydney Grizzell had one service point and Hannah Gross had a defensive dig.

The girls played at Lapel Tuesday night and host Cambridge City Lincoln Thursday at 6 p.m.
