Warriors Riding Proud After Big Win

September 3, 2008 - Although no longer a member of the White River Athletic Conference, the Wes-Del Warriors are still currently playing football. Wes-Del will invade Panther Stadium Friday night and for the first time in years the Warriors will enter the game with the better won-loss record.

Knightstown is 0-2, losing to Centerville, 21-18, and Hagerstown, 6-0, last week. The Warriors are 1-1, losing their season opener to Union City, 36-6, and then surviving against Cambridge City Lincoln last Friday, 15-12.

Knightstown has won the last 12 meetings between the two schools. The last Wes-Del win, 12-7, came during the 1995 season. Wes-Del has never won a football game at Knightstown, and it’s been almost 20 years since the Panthers have started a season 0-3.

The Warriors got their first win of the season despite fumbling the ball away three times against Lincoln. Knightstown suffered its second loss of the season after also fumbling three times against Hagerstown.

Lincoln was able to get the big play against Wes-Del’s defense. They scored on touchdown runs of 55 and 95 yards. But the Warrior pass defense allowed just 13 yards through the air. Lincoln generated little other offense against the Warrior run defense and finished with 185 yards despite getting 150 on those two big plays. Wes-Del’s defense also registered a safety in the game.
