Cosat Paces Cardinals to 3rd in MAC
May 28, 2008 - The Ball State University men’s golf team finished third at the 2008 Mid-American Conference Championships, and the primary reason for that showing was former Knightstown Panther athlete Ross Cosat.
Eastern Michigan won the event for a second consecutive season with a 288 in the final round for a team score of 1,171 (19 over par). The Eagles won the four-round, three-day event on the 72nd hole of the MAC Championships.
Kent State was second with a 1,172, while Ball State was third with a 1,194. The Cardinals outdistanced Toledo, Akron, Miami University, Ohio, Bowling Green and Northern Illinois.
Cosat fired a final round 71 to finish in a tie for 10th place with teammate Andrew Rhodes, who tallied a final round 77. Brian Maurer tied for 14th after shooting a final round 74. Eric Steger posted a 78 Sunday to finish 31st and Anthony Novak managed an 83 in the final round to tie for 39th.
Ball State will host the 2009 MAC Championships at The Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, located at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the heart of Indianapolis.
The course includes four holes inside the famed oval, and was home of the 2006 MAC Championships when Ball State finished second to Kent State.
