Shenandoah Wins WRAC Tennis Tourney
April 30, 2008 - Shenandoah won the White River Athletic Conference girls tennis tournament, finishing with a 3-0 record in round-robin action. Lapel was second at 2-1, Eastern Hancock third at 1-2 and Knightstown was fourth with an 0-3 mark.
Knightstown lost to the Lady Raiders 4-1, with Crystal Heim getting the lone Lady Panther win. She defeated Mariah Smith 6-4 and 6-1.
The Lady Panthers played well in a 3-2 loss to Lapel in the second round. Knightstown won both doubles contests, with Laura McCaffrey and Brittney Driesbach defeating their opponents 7-6 (7-4) and 6-4. In number two doubles, Lindsey Kennedy and Brittany Horth won in straight sets 6-2 and 6-2.
In the third round, Eastern Hancock defeated Knightstown 4-1. Nicole Newell fell to Julie Elsbury 6-3 and 6-0, while Lydia Long lost at number three singles 6-0 and 6-1. Heim picked up the Lady Panthers' lone win by defeating Mindy Richardson 6-2 and 6-2.
McCaffrey and Driesbach lost 6-0 and 6-1, while Horth and Kenndedy fell 6-2 and 6-4.
