Lady Panther JV Rip Morton Varsity 52-21

February 6, 2008 - Knightstown’s junior varsity girls basketball team picked up a big win last week, defeating the varsity squad from Morton Memorial 52-21.

Cassie Hammer scored nine of her game-high 13 points in the first half, while Megan Chew added six more. Haley Morgan and Hannah Smith both scored four points as the Lady Panthers bolted out to a 27-7 halftime lead.

Brittany Jolley hit a bucket and then picked up an assist on a basket by Chew that increased the lead to 31-7 in the third quarter, as the Lady Panthers scored 10 unanswered points.

Miranda White then made her presence known with a steal and subsequent feed to Hammer for two more. White then nailed a bucket herself after another steal and the lead was 25 points, at 36-11.

Morton closed out the quarter with an 8-3 run that made it 39-19. But six different Lady Panthers scored in the final period and nine eventually scored in the game for Knightstown, which finished the contest with a 13-2 run in the fourth quarter. Hammer led the scoring attack with 13 points, and Chew also hit double digits with 12. Chew nailed all four of her free throws in the contest.

Jolley and Smith scored six points each, while Haley Cruse and Morgan each scored five. White and Taylor Webber scored two and Askhia Howard added one with a free throw. Knightstown hit 10-of-14 free throws in the game.
