Union County Girls Hand Lady Panthers 59-47 Defeat

January 16, 2008 - For two quarters the Knightstown Lady Panther varsity basketball team played well enough to win last week against Union County.

But the girls faltered in the second half and the Lady Patriots were methodical in pulling away for a 59-47 home court win. The loss dropped Knightstown’s girls to 7-8 on the season.

Sabrina Hatfield again had the hot hand for Knightstown, finishing with 22 points. There were no other Lady Panthers in double figures, and the girls missed 10 free throws and committed 22 turnovers in the disappointing loss.

Diana Trautmann scored six points, while Megan Hiner, Natosha Hiner and Jocelyn Sturgill each scored five points. Haley Cruse and Danielle Altman both tallied two.

The Lady Panthers were in action Tuesday night at Cambridge City Lincoln, and hit the road again Friday night for a 6 p.m. tip-off against White River Athletic Conference foe Shenandoah. The game against the Lady Raiders is the first half of a double-header that includes the boys playing in the second game.

The girls return home for a January 21 contest against Morristown, who is 3-10 after a 63-41 victory over Edinburg.
