Choppers Outlast Angels in Girls Majors' Slugfest; Four Other Games Reported
June 13, 2007 - In a wild contest in girls major league action last week, the Coor Consulting Choppers defeated the Knightstown Gentle Dentist Angels 26-25.
Twelve different players scored in the contest for the winners, while the Angels were at a disadvantage, playing the game with just eight team members. Patty Jones led the Choppers with four runs scored, while Breanna Fields and Shelby Hall plated three runs apiece.
Players scoring twice for the Choppers included Ashley Dean, Bryanne Loveall, Jackie Hastings, Megan Taylor, Ciara Kline and Alyson Chapple and Kayli Apollos. Brittany Dean and Bethany Jackson also scored runs. Patty Jones, Bryanne Loveall, Shelby Hall, Meghan Taylor, Kayli Apollos and Breanna Fields had the hits in the game for the Choppers.
The Angels received a great game from Taylor Halcomb, who had two hits, drove in two runs and scored three times in the game. Sarah Simpson plated four runs, while Brooke Parsons and Hannah Morgan both scored four times, hit safely, and had an RBI.
Libbie Fender had a hit and scored three times, driving in another run. Erika Messer scored three times, while Shelby Patton and Lyndsie King each scored twice.
In girls major league action, the KUMC Challengers Purple Rain defeated the Knightstown Gentle Dentist Angels in a slugfest, 24-10.
Kori Biehl was the winning pitcher, and Casey Back picked up the save. Hannah Morgan took the loss for the Angels.
Casey Back and Allison St. John both had a double and two RBI for the winners. Kinzi Badgley, playing in her first year of major league ball, headed for home on a passed ball and made a perfect slide into home plate.
Kierston Hammer also drove in a run for the Purple Rain.
Michaela Colestock had four RBI for the Angels, reaching base twice in the game. Shelby Patton, Hannah Morgan and Libbie Fender all scored two runs apiece, while Brooke Parsons and Katie Kortz each drove home one runner.
The Quality Hardwood Tornadoes exploded for seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to defeat the Erwin Excavating Eliminators 14-4 Saturday evening.
Lauren Shields had a great day at the plate for the Tornadoes, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI. Mahaley Hagy struck out seven batters and walked just three in three innings of work. Lauren Shields came on in relief in the fourth inning.
Larissa Shields went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Jordyn Goodsene drove in two runs and Cassandra Cox added another RBI.
Taylor Hardeman, Chelsea Erwin, Sydney Grizzell and Emily Sander all scored runs for the Eliminators.
Five different players scored three runs, and Kayli Apollos drove home five runners to lead the Coor Consulting Choppers to a 19-17 victory over the Knightstown Gentle Dentist Angels last Friday.
Bryanne Loveall, Shelby Hall, Megan Taylor, Brittney Dean and Bethany Jackson all plated three runs, while Jackson also had three RBI. Patty Jones went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Ashley Dean, Ciara Kline and Breanna Fields also hit safely and drove home a runner.
For the Angels, Michaela Colestock went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI to lead the attack. Katie Kortz also went 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Macy Burton, Taylor Halcomb, Libbie Fender and Hannah Morgan all crossed the plate twice for the Angels, while Shelby Patton, Erika Messer and Brooke Parsons also hit safely and scored.
The Erwin Excavating Eliminators defeated the Knightstown Gentle Dentist Angels in another slugfest last week, 16-11.
Hayley Hardeman led the attack by going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Kerry Mulholland, Taylor Hardeman, Sidney Grizzell, Chelsea Erwin, Daisy Frazier and Emily Crain all scored two runs apiece for the winners.
Morgan Helderbrand and Shawna Rigdon also scored in the game.
Michaela Colestock and Libbie Fender both went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the Angles’ attack. Katie Kortz bashed out two hits, while Lyndsie King scored two runs. Taylor Halcomb, Shelby Patton and Brooke Parsons also scored runs, while Hannah Morgan hit a double.
