Blue River Stops KHS JV, 54-31

February 7, 2007 - Knightstown’s junior varsity basketball team had its biggest weakness exposed last weekend against a much taller Blue River squad. The Vikings crashed the offensive glass, dominating the boards, and cruised to a 54-31 victory.

Blue River’s Josh Gossage and Jacob Cool combined to scored 27 points as they repeatedly got easy baskets on put backs after a teammate missed.

The Vikings lit up the scoreboard by shooting 70 percent in the first quarter, opening an early 20-12 lead. Knightstown’s Anthony Hibbert scored six of his team-high 11 points in the first quarter, but the Panthers managed just four points in the second frame on another Hibbert bucket and one by Jordan Hauk.

Blue River expanded that lead with a 19-4 third quarter run, increasing their advantage to 44-25 after three quarters.

Behind Hibbert’s 11 points, Jordan Back scored seven, Colton Kinnaman added six on a pair of three-pointers, and Hauk scored four. Travis Titus added three points to round out the Panther scoring.
