 Karen Trent Hosts Avon Club

May 21, 2008 - The Avon Literary Club met at the home of Karen Trent on May 19.

President Pat Lake conducted the meeting, which featured a program given by Mary Craven. Craven read an excerpt from The First Ladies, a book about Anna Harrison and her Indiana connection as wife of William Henry Harrison. Craven also commented about her great-grandfather, Elisha Scovell, who was a friend of President Martin Van Buren, who passed through Knightstown in 1844. According to Craven, Scovell held up his young son to the former president and introduced the boy, who was named Martin Van Buren Scovell.

The club’s next meeting, the annual family picnic, will be June 2 at the home of Sue Bearhope.
