Shirley Henshaw Hosts Dinwiddie DAR Chapter

April 9, 2008 - The Major Hugh Dinwiddie Chapter DAR met Friday, April 4, for a luncheon at the Durneith home of Shirley Henshaw. Eight chapter members and one guest, Jill Meltzer, attended the meeting.

Member Louise Baldock shared here experiences as a volunteer at the 1996 Summer Olympics. While the games were based in Atlanta, the canoe and kayak competition that Baldock helped with was actually held in Ducktown, Tenn. During time off, Baldock said she an other volunteers exchanged Olympic pins.

Member Mary Ann Sitler gave the National Defense report, which emphasized the “hearts and minds” mission of the Combined Joint Task Force in Djibouti, a country in the horn of East Africa. Sitler said troops try to prevent terrorism by digging water wells, building schools and vaccinating children and animals. The Major Hugh Dinwiddie Chapter is involved in a prayer chain for a battalion stationed in Afghanistan.

The chapter’s next meeting will be hosted by member Janet Johnson on May 2 at 1:30 p.m.
