Grandson of Local Lady Awarded at Convention

Jon E. Petry, son of Malcolm E. and Nina Darlene Petry of New Castle, recently attended a Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Honor awards Program at the Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall in Washington D.C.
Petry, accompanied by his wife, Vickie, was honored to receive a DOC Bronze medal presented by Vice Admiral Conrad C. Lautenbacher, Jr., U. S. Navy (ret), Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) post-disaster relief operations following hurricane Katrina.
Shortly after hurricane Katrina struck Louisanna, Texas, Mississippi, and Alabama, Jon Petry volunteered to assist FEMA with disaster relief. During his month long tour in Alabama, Jon provided support to a countless number of people that had been displaced by the hurricane and helped them begin to rebuild their lives.
Jon has worked as an Electronics Technician in Syracuse, Indiana for the National Weather Service (NWS) since 1999 and resides with his wife and children, Micheala and Jacob, in Warsaw, Indiana. Jon also has two children, Andrew and Caitlin, living in La Fontaine, Indiana.
Petry is the grandson of Catherine Keesling of Knightstown.
