Alpha Zetas Meet in KES Cafeteria

Nov. 28, 2007 - The Alpha Zeta chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa met November 13 in the Knightstown Elementary School Cafeteria. President Nancy Gross conducted the business meeting and committee reports were presented.

Education Chairman Shannon Dawson collected donations for the “A Penny Saved Is A Penny Learned” campaign to benefit the sorority’s state scholarship fund. Contributions were also accepted for the local mental health Christmas fund, chaired by Judy Haase. Chairman Kami Doubman reported that the nut sales fundraiser was a success, and Sherry Trainor discussed plans for the upcoming culture programs to be held at the local elementary and intermediate schools. Cheer Guild Chairman Barb Hasse noted that Christmas plans are underway.

Patty Keesling announced that the chapter’s annual Christmas party will be held at the Knightstown United Methodist fellowship hall on December 4 at 6:30 p.m. A dinner featuring the delectable cuisine of Cheryl Hammer will be provided. Cost of the event is $12, and members are encouraged to bring a toy to contribute to the Knightstown Volunteer Fire Department’s annual toy drive.

Chairman Janet Linch reminded members that Alpha Zeta’s 100th Birthday Celebration is fast approaching. The chapter will host a tea for all past and present members on at 2 p.m. March 15 at the Spiceland Friends Meeting.

The chapter voted to support Knightstown High School’s “Empty Bowls” fundraiser by providing a bowl for auction. The evening’s general fund raffle featured holiday gift wrapping by Cindy Biehl and Dawson, and Dorothy Hatton was the lucky winner.

Cheeseball Chairman Mary Jo Purtee commended the many chapter members who turned out for “merry mixing” Monday night. Following the close of the business meeting, Alpha Zetas completed the preparation and packaging of the cheese balls, and enjoyed a sampling of the product. Monies raised from the sorority’s cheese ball sales fund a large part of the organization’s many efforts to support education, culture, and charity in the local community.
