Eastern Hancock Student Brittany Dunlavy Receives Philanthropy Award

November 21, 2007 - Brittany Dunlavy, a junior at Eastern Hancock High School, has been named the 2007 Martha Beckenholdt Youth Philanthropy Award winner by the Board of Directors of the Hancock County Community Foundation. The Martha Beckenholdt Youth Philanthropy Award was established by the Hancock County Community Foundation in 1996 and is given annually to a junior from one of the four Hancock County high schools who exhibits outstanding contributions of time, talent, and energy to philanthropic endeavors. A monetary gift in the recipient’s name is donated by the Foundation to a charity of the student’s choice.

Brittany has been involved in community service by advocating healthy lifestyle choices through her work with VOICE, Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.), and the Eastern Hancock Wellness Committee. She has served as a D.A.R.E. role model and is part of the newly founded group Students Against Tobacco at Eastern Hancock High School. Brittany also tutors classmates and was recognized as an Outstanding Peer Tutor.

In addition to her community service activities, Brittany is involved in many extracurricular activities, including National Honor Society and Student Council. She plays basketball, volleyball, and softball at Eastern Hancock and was chosen to be an Indiana High School Athletic Association Role Model.

In honor of Brittany’s award, Eastern Hancock SADD will receive a $500 grant from the Foundation for use in the Students Against Tobacco Program.
