Jenny Brooks Earns Coveted Fellowship
April 25, 2007 - Jenny Brooks, a 2003 graduate of Knightstown High School, has been selected as one of 13 Indiana college seniors who will receive a 2007 Governor Bob Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship.
Currently a student at Ball State University, Brooks will graduate in May with a degree in Business Administration. As an Orr Fellow, she will spend the next two years working for Griffin Analytical in West Lafayette, a company that specializes in chemical analysis products.
"I am excited to be involved in the Orr Fellowship so that I can be a part of an Indiana-based company," Brooks said in a press release announcing this year's Orr Fellows. "The chance to get a well-rounded work experience in two-years is a great opportunity." During her time at Ball State, Brooks was a member of Delta Sigma Phi business fraternity and Alpha Phi sorority, and was a sales representative for the Ball State Daily News.
Now in their sixth year, Orr Fellowships - named for former Indiana Governor Bob Orr (1981-1988), a proponent of increasing entrepreneurial opportunities in the state - are an effort to keep the top college students in Indiana after graduation. Since 2001, the program has placed 54 graduates in leadership-track positions at 19 Indiana companies.
Brooks and the other 12 2007 Orr Fellows competed against hundreds of applicants in a five-month process that included interviews by Orr Fellow company executives. Judges selected this year's recipients based on academic performance, extracurricular involvement, demonstrated leadership potential and previous job experiences.
Jenny is a daughter of Steve and Lois Brooks of Knightstown.
