Kennard Boy’s Essay Places Second in State DAR Competition

April 4, 2007 - The Major Hugh Dinwiddie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently received news that one of the chapter’s local winners in the annual historical essay writing contest has also placed at the state level.

Logan Cox, a sixth grade student at Knightstown Intermediate School, has been chosen as the second place winner for the sixth grade in the 2006-2007 Indiana DAR American History Essay Contest. He will be honored along with winners from other grade levels at the Indiana DAR’s annual Good Citizens and American History Winners luncheon and ceremony on May 5 in Indianapolis.

The DAR has been holding its annual historical essay contest for decades. This year’s essay topic was “Jamestown was Settled” in recognition of the 400th anniversary of the 1607 founding of one of this continent’s earliest English settlements. The essay contest guidelines asked students to convey their knowledge of the Jamestown Settlement by taking on the character of one the settlers and writing a letter back home to family in England.

Winning essays at the state level were selected from those essays winning in local DAR chapter contests throughout Indiana.

Logan is the son of Eric and Stacy Cox of Kennard.
