Beverly Gard Gives WCTU Overview of Current Bills

April 4, 2007 - The Knightstown Woman's Christian Temperance Union held a prayer breakfast in a fellowship room at the Knightstown Christian Church oon March 23. The breakfast was prepared by Laveille Meeks, Sarah Ward and Vonda Gross.

The program was given by State Senator Beverly Gard. She discussed the various bills before the senate, the marriage bill, four alcohol related bills, smoking bill, gameing bill, property tax, teachers criminal records and others that were of a concern to the Union. Questions were received and one important one was, if you fill out the questionaire then should we contact them with letters, e-mail etc. The answer was "yes" due to the ever changing concerns. One should always refer to the bill by number.

Devotions were given by Dick Thayer, minister of the host church, on the darkness of this world but Jesus said "Ye are the light of the world". He pointed out that if the world was always dark then we would not realize it was dark. It takes the light to show up the darkness.

There were nine members present, Lavelle Meeks, Sarah Ward, Virginia Taylor, Robert and Patricia Small, Carl and Avis Hawkins, Vonda Gross and Opal Hughes. Three guests were present were, Rachel Bettag, Minister Dick Thayer and Senator Beverly Gard.

The next meeting will be on Monday, April 23 at 1:30 p.m at the home of Sarah Ward. Anyone interested in what the Union does are welcome to attend the meeting.
