Karen Trent Hosts Avon Literary Club

February 14, 2007 - The Avon Literary Club met at the home of Karen Trent on February 5. President Pat Lake conducted the business meeting. Due to the absence of Recording Secretary Janet Johnson, Jane Leakey undertook roll call and read the last meeting’s minutes.

Lois Brooks gave the program, a review of the book, Girl Sleuth Nancy Drew and the Women Who Created Her by Melanie Rehak. The purported author of the Nancy Drew books, Carolyn Keene, was actually a pseudonym for a number of writers who were given a brief story idea by Edward Stratemeyer, an author of other children’s books. Stratemeyer and his daughters, Harriet and Edna, turned the Nancy Drew books into a very lucrative business.

The next meeting will be at Sue Kornman’s home on March 7.
