Wayne Draper
July 10, 1918 - December 6, 2009
Wayne Draper, 91, of Greenfield, formerly of Rush County, died Dec. 6 at Golden Living Center in Greenfield.
He was born July 10, 1918, in Posey Twp, Rush County, a son of the late Waldo and Fannie (Lightner) Draper.
Mr. Draper was a 1937 Arlington High School graduate, who started farming after school. He joined the U.S. Army on Sept. 2, 1943 and later served as a heavy mortar operator in the Pacific Theater of World War II. He left the service on Nov. 19, 1945 and resumed farming. He was a member of the American Legion and attended Center Christian Church.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Teresa (husband, Chris) Smith of Wilkinson, Barbara (husband, Dave) Peterson of Greenfield, Ronda (husband, Mark) Notter of Indianapolis and Jim (wife, Amanda) Draper of Rushville; seven great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Brian, Erik, Kevin, Duncan, Devan and Delaney; and a daughter-in-law, Mardell Wilson of Arlington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; a son, Ronnie Draper; a sister, Beatrice Park; two brothers, Donald and Glen; and a half-brother, Harold Draper.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Bill Worrell officiating. Burial with full military graveside rites will follow at Arlington East Hill Cemetery. Visitation is Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. until time of services.
