Lou Ella Magee
August 13, 1944 - November 18, 2009
Lou Ella Magee, 65, of Logansport, formerly of Carthage, died Nov. 18 at her home.
She was born Aug. 13, 1944, a daughter of Maine and Flora (Howard) Magee.
Ms. Magee was a 1962 Carthage High School graduate who received a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University in 1966. She later earned a master’s degree from Indiana University. Ms. Magee taught at Arlington High School (Rush Co.) for three years. She then taught English and social studies at Maconaquah Middle School for 37 years, retiring in 2006. She also served for many years as president of the Maconaquah Education Association. A member of St. James Lutheran Church, Ms. Magee served on the church’s missions and evangelism committee.
Survivors include her partner, Sue Laymon of Logansport; a nephew, Eric (wife, Melissa) Magee of Peru; a brother, Richard (wife, Marcia) Magee of Spiceland; two sisters, Geraldine Strong of New Castle and Gloria (husband, Lyle) Plank of Greenfield; and several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Farris Magee, Fred Magee and Ronald Magee; and two sisters, Darlene Muir and Virginia Norfleet.
Funeral services were Nov. 24 at St. James Lutheran Church in Logansport with Pastors K.C. Dehning and Marvin Hinkle officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation was Nov. 24 prior to services at the church. Kroeger Funeral Home in Logansport handled arrangements.
