 Arnold Alvin Gulley

 June 22, 1922 - November 7, 2009

 

Arnold Alvin Gulley, 87, of Morehead, Ky., a former area resident, died Nov. 7 at his home.

He was born June 22, 1922, in Lewis Co., Ky., a son of the late Essie Vernon Gulley and Lona Ethel (Pendland) Gulley.

Mr. Gulley was a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant who served for over 26 years. Mr. Gulley served during World War II and was at Normandy Beach on D Day+1. He also served in the demilitarized zone in Korea during the Vietnam War. A32nd degree Mason, Mr. Gulley worked for over 17 years in civil service at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis.

Survivors include nine children, Arnold Alvin Gulley Jr., of Milwaukee, Wisc., Carol Jane Gulley of San Jose, Cal., David Charles Gulley of Springfield, Md., Mary Susan Gulley Cappuccio of Walpole, Mass., Daniel Eric Gulley of Hope, R.I., Clifford Mead Gulley of Midwest City, Okla., Robin Mead Gulley Martellini of North Scituate, R.I., Gail Lynn Dennen Gulley of Taunton, Mass., and Brian Roger Gulley of Taunton, Mass.; two brothers, Harold Raymond Gulley of Charlottesville and Charles Homer Gulley of Knightstown; three sisters, Lula Mae Williams of Mansfield, Ohio, Mildred Garnel Kline of Carthage and Betty Lou Thurston of Rushville; seven grandchildren, Bonnie Christina Monroe of Grass Valley, Cal., Clint Gulley of Oklahoma City, Okla., Kerri Gulley of Rhode Island, Hannah Dennen of Taunton, Mass, Ian Dennen of Taunton, Jonathan Nicholas Martellini of N. Scituate, and Sofia Rosana Martellini of N. Scituate; and a great-grandson, William Eric Keeling of Grass Valley, Cal.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial with full military graveside rites conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152 will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation is Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
