Wendell Marion Stoten
October 7, 1920 - August 6, 2009
Wendell Marion Stoten, 88, of New Castle, died August 6 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born Oct. 7, 1920, in Knightstown, a son of the late John M. and Ruby (Oldham) Stoten.
Mr. Stoten retired from Alleghany-Ludlum after 15 years of service. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. A member of First United Methodist Church of New Castle, he was also a member of the Sulphur Springs Masonic lodge. Mr. Stoten was an avid farmer who loved gardening, woodworking, the outdoors and visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn (Edwards) Stoten of New Castle; two daughters, Sharon Stoten of Indianapolis and Marilyn (husband, Denis) Whitted of Springport; a grandson, David E. Whitted of Springport; and a great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell E. Stoten; and a sister, Barbara Stoten.
Funeral services were August 10 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Tom McGilliard officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Military graveside rites were conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation was August 9 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
