 Roger Harold Rigney

 Apr. 5, 1946 – May 5, 2009

Roger Harold Rigney photo    Roger Harold Rigney of Wilkinson, died May 5 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
     He was born April 5, 1946, in New Castle, a son of the late Evelyn (Young) Karpinski.
     Mr. Rigney was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in Vietnam. He was valedictorian of the last graduating class at Wilkinson High School in 1964. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Ball State in 1988. A General Motors employee, he was a skilled tradesman for 35 years and was a member of UAW Local 662 in Anderson. Mr. Rigney was a volunteer fireman at the Wilkinson Volunteer Fire Department and he taught at Anderson Area Vocational-Technical School. He was also a certified emergency medical technician. Mr. Rigney was a member of Shirley Lodge #531 and Cambridge City Christian Church. He was a former member of Wilkinson Church of Christ. Mr. Rigney donated his corneas to give someone else sight.
     Survivors include his wife, Sherry; three daughters, Melissa (husband, Mike) Baxter of Waukesha, Wis., Elizabeth (husband, Tracy) Wright of Milton and Amy (husband, Joe) Toomey of Wake Forest, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Stephen, Rebekah and Matthew Wright, Brock, Dylan and Logan Baxter and John Toomey; a sister, Anita Young of Greenfield; a brother, Jack (wife, Vicky) Friddle of Charlottesville; an aunt, Jane Zirkle of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
     Funeral services were May 9 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Tracy Wright officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was May 8 at the funeral home.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation, 333 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10605.
