Dorothy Sue Burgess

Dorothy Sue “Dottie” Burgess, 70, of Brazil, died February 13 at Cleverleaf Healthcare in Knightsville.
She was born Nov. 22, 1939, in Patriot, a daughter of the late David W. and Ada Ascherman White.
Mrs. Burgess was a Madison High School graduate who later earned a master’s degree in education from Indiana State University. After years of teaching, she began a career in the administration of long-term healthcare facilities. She retired from Cloverleaf Healthcare in Knightsville. Mrs. Burgess was a member of First United Methodist Church of Brazil, Delta Theta Tau sorority, Women’s Reading Club and United Methodist Church youth groups.
Survivors include her husband, Ersel “Bud” Burgess; two daughters, Pennie S. Brown of Arlington and Holly K. Peper of Brazil; a son, Brent A. Burgess of Maryland; five sisters, Shirley Waggener, Betty Smith, Rosemary Mix, Ruth Felgar and Linda Westby; a brother, David E. White; and three grandsons, Justin Greenwalt, Brandon Greenwalt and Jared Peper.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John White.
Funeral services were February 17 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastors Guy Lipkin and Lyle Monnett officiating. Burial followed at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation was February 16 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Cloverleaf Healthcare in Knightsville.
