William “Bill” Dawes
Oct. 20, 1945 – Jan. 28, 2009
William “Bill” Dawes, 63, of Knightstown, died January 28 at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis.
He was born Oct. 20, 1945, in Knightstown, a son of the late Maurice and Roda (Burgin) Dawes.
Mr. Dawes, a lifelong Knightstown resident, worked in maintenance for Chrysler Corp. in Indianapolis and New Castle. He was a member of Knightstown Christian Church, Millersville Masonic Lodge, Hoosier Beagle Club, American Quarter Horse Association, American Kennel Club and United Auto Workers #371. He was also a former Knightstown volunteer fireman, Carthage deputy marshall and an emergency medical technician.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dawes of Knightstown; two daughters, Patty (husband, Jeremy) Howard and Candy (husband, Troy) Chapman, all of Knightstown; a sister, Katie (husband, Arnold) Moir of Columbus; and six grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister.
Funeral services were February 2 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was February 1 at the funeral home.
