Richard D. Schweikhardt
April 23, 1930 – Feb. 2, 2009
Richard D. Schweikhardt, 78, of Knightstown, died February 2 at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.
He was born April 23, 1930, in Spiceland, a son of the late Ernest Leo and Thelma (St. Clair) Schweikhardt.
Having lived in Spiceland most of his life, Mr. Schweikhardt was a 1948 Spiceland High School graduate. He also served in the U.S. Army in Alaska. He retired from Dana Corporation in New Castle where he served as a supervisor. He was active in the Spiceland community and Boy Scouts of America. An avid Purdue Boilermakers fan, Mr. Schweikhardt founded the Richard D. and Emma F. Schweikhardt Memorial Scholarship Fund. He was a member of Ogden United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Doug (wife, Ruth) Schweikhardt of Rush County, David Schweikhardt of East Lansing, Mich., and Carol Schweikhardt of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Shawn and Ryan Schweikhardt of Rush County; a sister, Dorthy (husband, Ralph) Stover of Spiceland; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma (Caudill) Schweikhardt.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 5, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Pastor Carolyn Stoten officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richard D. and Emma F. Schweikhardt Memorial Scholarship Fund or the donor’s choice.
