 Freda M. Collier

 Nov. 9, 1918 – Jan. 17, 2009

Freda M. (Barton) Collier, 90, of Wilkinson, died January 17 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

She was born Nov. 9, 1918, in Fountain City, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Ethel Barton.

Mrs. Collier was a 1936 Wilkinson High School graduate. She was a lifelong homemaker and mother. She retired from the Hancock County Auditor’s Office and was member of Wilkinson Church of Christ, as well as the Lilac Literary Club. Mrs. Collier enjoyed spending time with her family and making her popular chicken-and-noodles dinner. She was known as someone who kept her home open to family and friends.

Survivors include four sons, Theron (wife, Kathy) Collier of Brea, Cal., Charles (wife, Jessie) Collier of Wilkinson, Donald (wife, Lee) Collier of Indianapolis and Philip (wife, Karen) Collier of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Phyllis (husband, William) Vest of Wilkinson; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, James Barton of Nashville, Tenn., and Richard Barton of Beech Grove, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Collier; two sisters; and eight brothers.

Funeral services were January 21 at Wilkinson Church of Christ with Herman Lippert officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson with James Barton officiating. Visitation was January 20 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Memorial donations may be made to Wilkinson Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society.
