Imogene D. Davis
May 6, 1918 – Nov. 13, 2008
Imogene D. Davis, 90, of Knightstown, died November 13 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born May 6, 1918, in Tiny, Va., a daughter of the late Fitzhugh Lee and Emma (Counts) Sutherland.
Mrs. Davis worked at Burma Manufacturing in Greenfield, Country Kitchen in Knightstown and The Corner Bakery in Knightstown for several years. She was a member of Curves in Knightstown and Faith Chapel Indpendent Baptist Church in Knightstown. Mrs. Davis was known as someone who sent cards to many people. She also enjoyed giving out her homemade jellies and jams. She was also known as a prayer warrior and some who enjoyed bluegrass music.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond (wife, Eveline) Compton of Fairfax, Va., Denny (wife, Carol) Davis of New Castle and Danny Joe Davis of Knightstown; two daughters, Evelyn (husband, Norman) Peyton of Anderson and Eva (husband, Larry) Griffey of Knightstown; eight grandchildren, Brian Compton, Stephanie Johnson, Markus Compton, Kelly Hall, Dana Stensrud, Mickey Griffey, Brandon Davis and Elizabeth Davis; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Norma Sutherland, Jill Sutherland and Nell Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Davis; two sisters, Dorothy Arrington and Ethel Hughes; and four brothers, Guy, Kermit, Edsel and Bernard Sutherland.
Funeral services were November 17 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was prior to services on November 17 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crohns & Colitis Research of American and Cancer Research of American with envelopes available at the funeral home.
