Sharon Smith Hansell
Nov. 23, 1927 – Oct. 30, 2008
Sharon Smith Hansell, 80, of Kokomo, formerly of Knightstown, died October 30 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born Nov. 23, 1927, in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Dudley A. and Miriam (Sprague) Smith.
Mrs. Hansell attended Indianapolis Public Schools, including Shortridge High School. She also attended Indiana University for three years. She was a member of First Prebyterian Church of Kokomo, Kokomo Country Club, Greek Club, Tri Kappa and Delta Gamma sororities. Mrs. Hansell also served as a volunteer at VNS Hospice, CAM Drop-In Center and St. Joseph Hospital, all in Kokomo.
Survivors include four daughters, Lisa (husband, Michael) Sandy of Zionsville, Laura Ann (husband, William) Ditty of Russiaville, Conni Jo Cozad and Laura Marie (husband, David) Johnson; two sons, Ralph Stephen (wife, Nancy) Vasse-Hansell of Cleveland and Frederick Michael (wife, Audrey) Odiet of Tomah, Wisc.; a sister, Rosemary P. Angelos of Centennial, Colo.; two brothers, Dr. Stephen (wife, Mary Lou) Smith of Escondido, Cal. (formerly of Knightstown) and Ben (wife, Lyn) Wright of Georgia; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Sandy, Laura Ann (husband, Matt) Elias, Colin Douglas Cole, Brant Steven (wife, Renee) Cole, Hunter Christian Vasse-Hansell, Erin Elizabeth (husband, Anderw) Habel and Michelle Rebecca Ditty; and three grandsons, Kaiden Christopher Cole, Maxwell William Habel and Lucas Andrew Habel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph E. Hansell, Jr.
Funeral services were November 2 at First Presbyterian Church in Kokomo with Rev. Joyce Harris officiating. Visitation was November 2 at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, in Kokomo. Burial was private.
