 Leonard Lantie Jeffers

 June 1, 1940 – Oct. 3, 2008

Leonard Lantie Jeffers, 68, of Knightstown, died October 3 at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis.

He was born June 1, 1940, in Scott County, Tenn., a son of the late Wilbert J. and Lucy Thelma (Boshears) Jeffers.

Mr. Jeffers was a retired contract mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Eastern Tennessee. Prior to that he was a computer operator for many years with various companies. Mr. Jeffers was a member of Buffalo Bridge Baptist Church in Huntsville, Tenn. He was also a Little League softball and baseball coach in the Irvington (Indianapolis) area.

Survivors include his wife, Judith E. (Query) Jeffers; a son, Leonard Jr. (wife, Peggy) Jeffers of Indianapolis; a daughter, Becky (husband, Steve) Hibbert of Knightstown; three brothers, Glen (wife, Pearl) Jeffers, Wayford “Pete” (wife, Christine) Jeffers and Charles (wife, Sandra) Jeffers, all of Tennessee; a sister, Bonnie June Lowe of Tennessee; grandchildren, Amber, Brad and Cody Hibbert of Knightstown, Taylor Dukes, and Dylan and Peyton Jeffers, all of Indianapolis; and two cousins, Helen Norris and Thermon (wife, Barb) Jeffers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeff and Ronald Jeffers; and a sister, Hilda Jeffers.

Funeral services were October 6 at Fairview Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, Tenn., with Pastor Demas Love officiating. Graveside services and burial took place October 7 at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was October 5 at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
