Iva Lukens Chew
Sept. 4, 1911 – Sept. 20, 2008
Iva Lukens Chew, 97, of Knightstown, died September 20 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born Sept. 4, 1911, in Spiceland, a daughter of the late William and Lilly (Magee) Warrick.
Mrs. Chew worked at the Rushville Social Services Department caring for children. She attended Carthage Methodist Church for many years, where she served as a nursery teacher for 15 years. Most recently, she was a member of Knightstown United Methodist Church.
Survivors include seven children, Barbara (husband, Virgil) McKee of Columbus, Ohio, Jim (wife, Rita) Lukens of Knightstown, Gloria Thorpe of Eaton, Ohio, Mary Lou (husband, Sam) Gray of Carthage, Donna Kay (husband, John) Gaither of New Castle, Linda (husband, Ronald) Gatewood of Warrenton, Va., and Lori Chew of Kennard; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Lukens of New Castle; 25 grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Maurice Lukens; her second husband, George Chew; a daughter, Candi Lukens; a son, Phillip Lukens; two granddaughters, Marcie Lukens and Pam Thorpe Moore; two great-great-granddaughters, Cora Beth and Josie Danielle Cole; three sisters, Edna Shepherd, Jenny Ingram and Mary Baker; a brother, Melvin Warrick; and two sons-in-law, Jack Lynch and James Chew.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 25, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastors Roger Campbell and Kenneth Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knightstown United Methodist Church Building Fund or the American Diabetes Association.
