Thomas Marshall Gorman
Dec. 23, 1914 – Aug. 17, 2008
Thomas Marshall Gorman, 93, of Rushville, died August 17.
He was born Dec. 23, 1914, in Knightstown, a son of the late Jesse James and Eva (Mawk) Gorman.
In 1933, during The Great Depression, Mr. Gorman worked for the Civilian Construction Corps, in which he helped build roads. After that, he became a truck driver. Mr. Gorman later retired from Container Corporation of America in Carthage. He and his wife, Tempa, owned and operated Northend Grocery in Carthage, as well as Gorman’s Rest Home in Milroy, for many years. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, gardening and growing flowers. Mr. Gorman was a member of Pentacostal Church in New Castle.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas M. (wife, Betty) Gorman, Jr., of Adah, Penn., and Mike (wife, Marsha) Gorman of Carthage; three daughters, Brenda (husband, Bill) Merrell of Rushville, Ramona (husband, Sam) Cooper of Spring Hill, Fla., and Deanna (husband, Steve) Morgan of Milroy; a daughter-in-law, Sondra Gorman of Carthage; two sisters, Ruth Romans of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Joann (husband, Walter) Caplinger of Piketon, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior Gorman and Carl Gorman; two sisters, Dorothy McNelly and Lucille Grubb; a son, James D. Gorman; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Jacobs.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 21, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Gregory Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, at the funeral home.
