 Laura G. Huckaby

 Dec. 3, 1941 – Aug. 16, 2008

Laura G. Huckaby, 66, of New Castle, died August 16 at her home.

She was born Dec. 3, 1941, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Robert Ray and Mildred Marie (Shadoan) Hughes.

Mrs. Huckaby was a pre-need counselor and funeral assistant for Main & Davis Funeral Home in New Castle. She also worked at Henry County Memorial Hospital, the New Castle State Developmental Center, H&R Block Company, Muscatatuck State Hospital and the Henry County Pregnancy Care Center, where she served as a volunteer. Mrs. Huckaby was a member of Muncie Pilgrim Nazarene Church, where she served as missionary president and church treasurer. She was known as a loving and generous person who enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce Huckaby; two daughters, Tohawnee (husband, Bill) Stockton of Albany, Ky., and Julia (husband, Clinton) Parkof Westport; a son, Harold (wife, Barbara) Adkins of Huntington; two stepdaughters, Kathy (husband, Ron) Lodge of New Castle and Tura Lynn (husband, Richard) Klepfer of Crawfordsville; a stepson, Rick Huckaby of New Castle; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Roberta Hill, Alice Gordon and Geneva Morrow, all of New Castle; five brothers, Charles Hughes of Wilkinson, Raymond Kennedy of Iowa, James and Allen Kennedy of New Castle and Bill Kennedy of Pershing; a half-brother, Bobby Hughes; her stepmother, Tammy Hughes of New Castle; two stepsisters, Mary Caudill and Tammy Murphy of New Castle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Adkins; her second husband, Clarence Denney; two sons, Mark Adkins and Gordon Denney; three sisters, Betty Hughes, Mildred Garner and Shirley Pennington; and her stepfather, James Kennedy.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 21, at Main & Davis Funeral Home in New Castle with Pastor Scott Turner officiating. Burial will take place at 4 p.m. at Westport Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, at the funeral home.
