Alva Veach, Jr.
June 25, 1926 – July 16, 2008
Alva “Al” Veach, Jr., 82, of Greenwood, died July 16.
He was born June 25, 1926, in Knightstown, a son of the late Alva and Mary (Carroll) Veach.
Mr. Veach was a 1944 Knightstown High School graduate who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the Switzer Corporation in 1985. Mr. Veach was a 63-year member of Crescens Lodge #33 of the Order of the Knights of Pythias, a 26-year member of American Legion Post #64, a 38-year member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152, a 45-year member of Greenwood Masonic Lodge #514 F&AM, Royal Lodge Chapter #37, Order of the Eastern Star #390, a 43-year member of Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine Temple, a 25-year member of the Shrine RV Club, Murat Police Club, charter member of the Murat Temple Legion of Honor, Hillbilly Clan 14 and the Gatlin Gun Club. He was also past-president of the Brickyard Crossing Men’s Golf Club.
Survivors include two sons, Gary (wife, Lois) Veach of Union, Ohio, and Mary Veach of Greenwood; a daughter, Esta Marie (wife, Tom) Ott of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Amanda (husband, Kris) Fox of Milford, Ohio, and Christopher Veach of Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Nicholas Fox; and two brothers, Ronald Veach and Caroll (wife, Mildred) Veach.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esta (Buchanan) Veach; and two brothers, Ralph Veach and Lewis Veach.
Funeral services were July 19 at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory in Greenwood. Greenwood Masonic Lodge #514 conducted masonic services. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Memorial contributions may be made to the Murat Shrine Temple’s transportation or Shrine Circus funds.
