Donovan Ward Jackson

Jan. 11, 1913 – May 22, 2008

Donovan Ward “Don” Jackson, 95, of Lewisville, died May 22 at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.

He was born Jan. 11, 1913, in Lewisville, a son of the late John and Vera (Ward) Jackson.

Mr. Jackson was a lifelong Lewisville resident who lived along U.S. 40. He was a 1931 Lewisville High School graduate. Mr. Jackson married the former Ruth L. Watson on Sept. 28, 1935, and the marriage lasted 71 years. He worked at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle for 41 years, retiring in 1975. Mr. Jackson was also a 20-year Lewisville schools bus driver. He was a member of Lewisville Presbyterian Church, where he played Santa Claus for children for 50 years. He was also a Lewisville Masonic Lodge member.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (husband, Herbert) Shears of Indianapolis; a son, Richard (wife, Jane) Jackson of Richmond; five grandchildren, Don (wife, Lisa) Shears, Herb, Jr., (wife, Kristen) Shears and Lisa Shears, Jim (wife, Julie) Jackson and Julie (husband, Mike) Meitzler; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Furgason of Indianapolis and Marilyn Smith of Kentucky; and several niece and nephews.

Funeral services were May 26 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with Revs. Peter Zinns and Peter Zinn and Pastor Mick Saunders officiating. Burial followed at Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation with full Masonic services was May 25 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lewisville Presbyterian Church, Lewisville Masonic Lodge or the Lewisville Cemetery Association.
