Lois P. Thompson

June 13, 1904 – May 12, 2008

Lois P. Thompson, 103, died May 12 at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.

She was born June 13, 1904, in Arlington, a daughter of the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Moore) Kennedy.

Mrs. Thompson lived in Rush and Henry Counties all her life. She worked at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle during World War II and at Kresage’s Five & Dime in New Castle. She was known for her love of cooking and she owned and operated 3-T Restaurant in Straughn and the Wagon Wheel in New Castle. She and her husband, Ren, also operated Thompson Go-Kart Track south of New Castle for many years. Mrs. Thompson was a 50-year member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed spending time with her family, mushroom hunting and playing cards.

Survivors include three daughters, Lenora (husband, Ira) Rhodes of New Castle, Norma Jean Hayworth of Lewisville and Carolyn Jefferis of New Castle; a son, Charles Thompson of New Castle; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Alberta Pointer of Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenzo Dow “Ren” Thompson, Sr.; a son, Lorenzo Thompson, Jr.; and 11 siblings. Funeral services were May 16 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Burial followed at Arlington East Hill Cemetery. Visitation was May 15 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Sheriff’s Ambulance.
