Gertrude “Odell” Smith

Nov. 7, 1957 – April 26, 2008

Gertrude “Odell” Smith, 50, of Carthage, died April 26 in Champagne County, Ohio.

She was born Nov. 7, 1957, in Flemingsburg, Ky., a daughter of the late John and Lena (Moore) Kendall.

Mrs. Smith enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as scrapbooking and genealogical research.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Smith of Carthage; a son, Michael Smith of Carthage; a daughter, Kelly Smith of Carthage; special friends, Elizabeth Drake and Mark Durham; eight grandchildren, Tyler Jackson, Maddison Smith, Kaitlyn Jackson, Skyla Smith, Caiden Smith, Baylie Smith, Morgan Douglas and Jayden Durham; two sisters, Kathy (husband, Larry) Jenkins and Barbara (husband, Dean) Collins; two brothers, Jim and Scott Kendall; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Kendall.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at the funeral home.
