Harvey L. "Jim" Williams
Dec. 14, 1922 – April 14, 2008
Harvey L. “Jim” Williams, 85, of Carthage, died April 14 at his home.
He was born Dec. 14, 1922, in New Castle, a son of the late Harvey D. and Leta (Kinsell) Williams.
Mr. Williams was a 1942 Knightstown High School graduate, and he served as president of his class. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Williams served during World War II in the 76th Field Artillery. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He retired in 1980 from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service. He served as superintendent of operations at the Knightstown Post Office for several years. Mr. Williams also worked at railway post office in Indianapolis and at the Indianapolis International Airport post office. He was a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and a 60-year member of Knightstown United Methodist Church. Mr. Williams was known for his love of the outdoors and his family. He was also an avid bird watcher.
Survivors include his wife, Luana A. Williams of Carthage; a son, Ronald (wife, Anita) Williams of Knightstown; a daughter, Alora (husband, Mark) Westra of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Jason (wife, Angie) Perry of Indianapolis, Ryan Porter of Fishers, Jarrod (wife, Alison) Perry of Greenfield and Rayann (husband, Steven) Forbes of Indianapolis; six great-grandchildren, Alijah, Regan, Savannah, Max, Christian and Jayden; a niece, Beverly (husband, Darrel) Cooney of New Castle; and a sister-in-law, Betty Williams of Knightstown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie A. and Richard Williams.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 17, at Knightstown United Methodist Church with Rev. Janice Heseman officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Regional Hospital Hospice Foundation.
