Frederick Eugene Posey

April 8, 1920 – April 5, 2008

Frederick Eugene “Gene” Posey, 87, of Knightstown, died Saturday, April 5, at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood.

He was born April 8, 1920, in Rush County, a son of the late Fred and Ada (McConnell) Posey.

Mr. Posey worked at Delco-Remy for 21 years before retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, having served four years in Alaska. Mr. Posey was a 1938 Rushville High School graduate. He was a member of the track team there. He enjoyed dancing, sports and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Posey was known as a friendly person who never met a stranger. He attended Knightstown Christian Church was a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel (Plank) Posey of Knightstown; four sons, Rick (wife, Mary) Sipes of Muncie, Mark Posey of Knightstown, Randy (wife, Jayana) Posey of Lewisville and Brett (wife, Cindy) Posey of Spiceland; a daughter, Terri Sipes of Knightstown; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was April 8 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
