Alta F. Magee

May 11, 1947 – March 8, 2008

Alta F. “Francie” Magee, 60, of Greensboro died March 8 at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.

She was born May 11, 1947, in Carthage, a daughter of the late Merrill “Bill” and Elsie (Blackburn) Magee.

Miss Magee was a 1965 Carthage High School graduate. She later graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration. She retired from BMG/Thompson Consumer Electronics (formerly RCA) in Indianapolis after 29 years. For the past six years, she was employed by the Internal Revenue Service. She was a member of Shirley United Methodist Church and Shirley Order of the Eastern Star #492.

Survivors include two sisters, Phyllis (husband, Gerald L.) Mayberry of Carthage and Karen E. (husband, Joseph L.) Renfro of Greenfield; four brothers, George M. (wife, Sue A.) Magee of Knightstown, Michael O. (wife, Pam) Magee of Knightstown, James D. (wife, Brenda) Magee of Carthage and Charles L. “Chuck” Magee of Greensboro; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Merrill “Stanley” Magee and Richard “Dick” Magee; and two sisters, Esther and Juanita Magee.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the funeral home. Eastern Star services will take place at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rush County Cancer Society or the Rush County Heart Society.
