Edna Pearl Somers

May 30, 1919 – March 3, 2008

Edna Pearl (Shoopman) Somers, 88, died March 3 at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

She was born May 30, 1919, in Albany, Ky., a daughter of the late Henry and Martha (Conner) Denney.

Mrs. Somers worked in Louisville for 17 years. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and attended Carthage Nazarene Church. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star for 50 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth (husband, Luther) Isgette of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Peggy (husband, Bill) Varble of Mt. Washington, Ky., and Karen (husband, Jerry) Steinberg of Marrieta, Ga.; a son, Keith (wife, Betty) Shoopman of Pensacola, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Nancy (husband, Larry) LeMay of Naples, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, LuElla Hickerson of Louisville, Ky., and Ida Mae (husband, Jay) Farmer of Albany, Ky.; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Shoopman of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Walter Shoopman and Lowell Somers; a son, Kenneth; a sister, Marie Bell; and four brothers, Luther, Ewell, Roy and Hershel Denney.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, March 7, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Gene Bennett and Brother Tone officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition, in New Castle. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the funeral home.
