Ezra Spence

Jan. 10, 1925 – Feb. 5, 2008

Ezra Spence, 83, of Carthage, died February 5 at Richard Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.

He was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Lewis County, Ky., a son of the late Clarence and Anna (Gulley) Spence.

Mr. Spence was a member of Carthage Early Methodist Church, where he served on the board of directors. He was a veterans of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. Self-employed in the logging industry for many years, Mr. Spence enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Nola E. Spence of Carthage; two sons, Loran (wife, Judy) Spence of Monticello, Ky., and Larry (wife, Lisa) Spence of Carthage; a daughter, Sharon (husband, Russell) Kline of Carthage; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Olive Riley and Audrey Nolan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were February 8 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Peter Casalino officiating. Burial followed in Carthage Riverside Cemetery. Military graveside rites were conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation was February 7 at the funeral home.
