Julia Alice Sorrell

Feb. 24, 1912 – Jan. 29, 2008

Julia Alice Sorrell, 95, of Knightstown, died January 29 at Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenfield.

She was born Feb. 24, 1912, in Knightstown, a daughter of the late Charles and Julia (Allison) Risk.

Mrs. Sorrell was a 1929 Knightstown High School graduate. She played piano for silent movies at Knightstown’s Alhambra Theater. She was also a bookkeeper for First National Bank in Knightstown. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and she married William Sorrell on May 19, 1934. Mrs. Sorrell was also a member of Tri Kappa sorority, Fortnightly Historical Club, Order of the Eastern Star #54 and the Priscilla Club.

Survivors include a son, C. Robert Sorrell of Naperville, Ill.; three daughters, Julia K. (husband, Robert) Stephens of Fort Myers, Fla., Patricia Nicholas of Knightstown and Mary Jo (husband, Dan) Purtee of Knightstown; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William; two brothers; and a sister.

Funeral services were February 2 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Peter Zinn officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was February 1 at the funeral home.
