Frederic W. Brooks, Jr.

May 20, 1947 – Jan. 30, 2008

Frederic W. “Fred” Brooks Jr., 60, of Garrett, formerly of Greenfield, died January 30 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

He was born May 20, 1947, in Littleton, N.H., a son of the late Frederic W. Brooks Sr. and Carol M. (Pearce) Galbol.

Mr. Brooks was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the Vietnam War from July 1965 to December 1968. He also worked as a manager for the U.S. Department of Defense. On Nov. 15, 1947, he married Sheryl “Sherry” Cecil.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Cecil; a son, Van R. (wife, Shelley) Brooks of Spencerville; a daughter, Jean Ann (husband, Michael) Busche of Auburn; six grandchildren, Caitlynn Jo Carman, Michael D. Busche, Maddison D. Busche, Wyatt A. Brooks, Jacob D. Brooks and Morgan L. Brooks; one stepsister, Dr. Katherine Bolyard of Lafayette; his stepmother, Martha Ann Brooks of Knightstown; and his mother-in-law, Betty Cecil-Duhamell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Becky Brooks and Linda Brooks.

Funeral services were February 4 at Feller & Clark Funeral Home in Auburn with Rev. Gordon Samra officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn with military graveside rites conducted by the U.S. Air Force and the Garrett American Legion. Visitation was February 3 at the funeral home and February 4 prior to funeral services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne or the American Diabetes Association.
